Don’t emulate, exceed!

by Raph Goldsworthy

Sometime ago while randomly gallivanting across the vast space that is the wold wide web I came across a brilliant piece of advice. Whether you are a designer, a business person, a student, a graduate or seasoned professional this advice applies to you. I really think this one of the best pieces of advice I have ever found and applies well beyond the design field. Only problem is I lost the site when I cleared out my bookmarks, which I am kicking myself for. Anyway here it is, or the core idea anyway.

If you want to be great at anything. Be it being a designer, running a business or winning a gold medal you need two things. You need to have a goal to target and a person whom you aspire to, a person who is a role model in a sense. But don’t just aim to emulate your chosen hero, exceed them because by the time you catch up where they are, it will be where they were.
