A great mix of yummy Industrial Design links, including everything from portfolio advice and design philosophy through to Star Wars Design. Enjoy.
A plea for more critical thinking in design, please – A piece written by John Barratt (President at Teague Design) for Fastcompany.
Design Philosophy Papers – DPP “aims to break away from the idea of design as a specialist interest, as well as rejecting the simplistic and debased way design arrives before the public via both old and new media — frequently merely as style or technics.”
Personas – From the MIT Media Lab. Personas “uses sophisticated natural language processing and the Internet to create a data portrait of one’s aggregated online identity.” This is pretty cool and a bit of fun to play with.
The LAB – “A pilot program for GM, an interactive design research community in the making. Here you can get to know the designers, check out some of their projects, and help them get to know you. Like a consumer feedback event without the one-way glass.”
No!Spec - “a vehicle to unite those who support the notion that spec work devalues the potential of design and ultimately does a disservice to the client.”
A portfolio doesn’t speak for itself - A Creative Seeds post by Jim Best of Pensa. Some excellent portfolio advice.
Q&A with Emily Philloton - A short Q&A with the founder of Project H Design.
John Scalzi’s Guide to the Most Epic Fails in Star Wars Design – Excellent. Via Core77.
