15 Awesome Clock Designs

I’ve been doing a bit of clock design recently so I have been slightly obsessed with clocks for the last few weeks. Here are 15 awesome clocks I came across while I was obsessing about clocks.

1. Eric Freitas’ No.5 Steampunk Clock

Industrial Designer Eric Frietas’ designs steam punk inspired clocks. They are amazingly complex and intricate.

2. BitPlay Puzzle Alarm Clock

Play with time –- or at least, play with your alarm clock. Puzzle makes it fun to set your alarm by letting you manipulate the numbers yourself. It is an elegant wooden box, with a front face that has four digits that are flush against the face. You physically arrange the strokes of the digital numbers in order to set the time on your alarm. When it is correctly set, the alarm icon lights up in the corner of the face.

3. Chronotronix V400 Nixie Tube Clock

The Chronotronix V400 Nixie Tube Clock is insanely awesome. It is truly a celebration of purist elegance. Decked out in a combo of cherry wood and shiny black anodised aluminum it is an ulta precise real time clock that is accurate to within 0.0003s per minute!

4. Hard Drive Circuit Board Desk Clock

This one is for the geek and recycler in us all. The Hard Drive Circuit Board Clock is made up of a circuit board from an old 3.5″ SCSI hard drive. the recycled desk clock runs on single AA battery (included) to allow a brand new quartz clock movement, while an old RAM has been epoxied to the bottom that creates a solid base to keep it stable on the table.

5. Jaeger LeCoultre’s Atmos 561 Clock

Suspended in a bubble block of Baccarat crystal and powered by temperature change, Jaeger LeCoultre’sAtmos 561 mechanical clock is the work of Australian super-designer Marc Newson.

6. Eye Clock

Designed by Mike Mak, the “eyes” act as the radii of the clock, with the left one telling the hour and right the minute.

7. Sanyo Turntable Clock

Created by Pixelthis using a recycled Sanyo turntable and a Ronco’s Greatest Hits album titled “Get It On” which is replaceable.

8. 4th Dimension Clock

Taiwan’s 22 design studio’s 4th dimension clock is a further exploration of their interest in the concrete material. each hour is represented by a triangular slice of concrete, layered in a spiral formation downwards from hours 12 through to 1, creating an inner receding dimension within the clock’s face.

9. Black & White Digital Clock

The Black & White clock, designed by Kibardin Design is a stripped down digital clock. With only figures, no case, only the necessary – only accurate time. Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. A light sensor will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of day and black at daytime.

10. Reflectius Laser Beam Clock

The Reflectius is only a concept at the moment, this clock eatures sixty rotating mirrors that successively reflect a single laser beam at precise angles to draw numbers.

11. Soft Clock

Soft Clock Concept by Egor Myznik. The hands of the clock make bulges in the glossy flexible PVC front.

13. It’s About Time Clock

Design by InsightOutsight this clock is based on the idea that people round time up when communicating “rough time”: it gives a rough account of the time using words to give a true reflection of how people view time.

14. Nixie Concrete Clock

Another clock that uses Nixie tubes, designed by Daniel Kurth.

15. One Perfect Cube

One Perfect Cube, designed by Florian Jennett, uses three clocks synchronised to form this perfect cube every 12 hours! Check out the time lapse video.
