Are you looking for a quick, but insightful overview of what it takes to build your company into an innovation powerhouse using design?
Then Marty Neumeier‘s (Author of Zag and The Brand Gap
) newest book The Designful Company: How to build a culture of nonstop innovation
is exactly what you are looking for.
The Designful Company is an easy read (I punched through it in a few hours one evening) in nice large text (no squinting at little type), that features some great images and diagrams to help you get all the important information stuck in your brain.

Not only is Marty’s new book a high-level overview that gives you the what and why, but it also gives you the how, through four well thought out parts.
The introduction gives you the low down on previous business techniques (such as Six Sigma) that have got us to the point we are at today in business, the current landscape of business and a brief look at what Marty believes is coming next.
In “The Power of Design” you are guided through the landscape of design – again the focus is on how it got to where it is and where it’s going, how the definition of Design has changed and insight into the mind of this design beast (especially useful for those super business types).
“The Rebirth of Aesthetics” guides you through what Aesthetics is all about, how it is a language that is meant for the senses and also makes an attempt to answer that always puzzling question ‘what is good design?’.
In “Levers for Change” you are provided with 16 practical tools and advice that you can actually implement into your own organisation.

Essentially each tool or lever allows you to implement small changes that will have far reaching impacts for you and your organisation. The great thing is that you can implement one or two of these levers or all of them and still gain benefits.
The bottom line is that The Designful Company is enjoyable and useful, it won’t take up too much of your day in reading time and it also gives you something to actually use, as oppose to being all theory and no practical application.
