Still studying? Just graduated? Designers are wankers is aimed at those students and graduates who want to know what might be coming up next or want to ease their transition into industry and professional design life.
Like many design students who have graduated, the author of Designers are Wankers, Lee McCormack went through many trials and tribulations while making his transition from Design school into professional life. This coupled with his thoughts on ‘why as students we were not introduced to some of the more practical aspects of getting on with design in industry’ led to him writing this excellent book.
The book covers many aspects of the professional life of a designer. From client relations through to the pitfalls of dealing with venture capitalists, manufacturers and avoiding being ripped off by business sharks. The book is filled with practical, easy to follow advice which is accompanied by case studies from Lee’s personal experiences.

Also included are several interviews with great designers and business people such as Paul Smith ( founder of Paul Smith Clothing) and Industrial Design icon Karim Rashid.
In terms of the actual layout and design the book has a unique layout that is easy to navigate and read. Although maybe there are slightly too many dots and purple? The Book is also accompanied by a website on which you can interact with Lee and his small army of ‘Gurus’, as well as connect with other ‘Plebs’. Although after producing such a great book, the website leaves a lot to be desired.

Designers are wankers is available from Amazon.
